POLJANE GRAMMAR SCHOOL
Renovation of the dining hall

Location: Ljubljana, Slovenia

Client: Poljane Grammar School

Year: 2022

Program: education

Area: 160 m2

Architecture: Ognen Arsov, Ana Kosi, Žiga Rošer, Matjaž Horjak

The renovation of the school common areas includes the renovation of the dining hall, presentation room and the exhibition space in the school basement. As the space is located in the basement and the old interior is characterised by heavy, dark materials and outdated furniture, the project foresees the use of light and bright materials to refresh and lighten the basement.

The furniture is made of spruce wood, and is slightly based on Japanese design - tactile and simple. Space is not just a selection of typical elements, but rather a custom-designed set of benches and platforms that become an integral part of the space.  The design is intended to make the user feel at home and relaxed - so the school space is not just a place to learn, but also to meet and socialise.
